photo of the week...

Some of the simplest arrangements of Christmas-y bits are so expensive I can't believe it... ....save yourself a few bucks....
If you are like me and have done some Christmas craftsy things over the years... I bet you have some faux greenery, big ribbons and "stuff". If you don't have any... Michael's, and other places, have poinsettias .. greenery.. wreaths, swags, and garlands... half off by early December... even some of the florists and cute little knick knack places have some wonderful bits and pieces.... last year I got a wonderful garland with some great realistic looking pine twigs in it. Not used here... I made a front door wreath with it...

but, look.... a simple bucket...mine is brassy with some shadowing in a verdigris colour around the stars... bought it for $5 somewhere two years ago....
A few huge Sugar Pine cones as they were called on the package... whole package of about 6 for $5 at a nursery.... the other bits are stuff I found in my huge bag of goodies that I add to, or use from, every year....it hangs at the back of my storage area...

pick and choose...some of mine have some gold sprinkles on the edges of the greenery... and I found a fruit pick that has glassy looking bits on it... almost makes them look frosty or like they were dipped in sugar.... pop them into the bucket... in an attractive manner...and voila.... you have an arrangement.... that would be about a $90 touch if you were to buy it. 'Scuse the bear's foot in the photo....

After the festive season...I toss it all back into the bag and re-hang it... next year I can use it for this or something else... .. perhaps by then I will have other containers...if I find something nicer...but, for now...I kinda like my starry night bucket. If you don't have ideas for arranging... just take a look or even a photo of some at your local florists... or at a decor shop.....they won't know but what you are taking them to show somebody before you buy one.

That's a beautiful arrangement. I just can't get into decorating much this year (or any year), ha. I'm one of those seasonal gloomy people.

Hi Vee! I wish I had all that snow in mounds by my house...I got nothing!!...LOL! it all melted and all I have today is fog and wet with 40 degree temps..ugh!!! I like what you did with the starry bucket. I put things together and then after the holiday take them apart except for things that are permanent like my over the window/doorway garlands. That way you don't get bored year after year either. Have a nice day!!! Hugs, Jenniifer

It looks great Vee! You are so right though, things are just so expensive these days. I would love to make my own decorations.

That is a beautiful arrangement and you are absolutely right some of the stuff that the shops sell we can do it so easily if we put our mind to it.

Expense is part of the reason I rarely do anything but put the tree up. Your arrangement turned out so beautiful! You have a good eye for balance and harmony, Vee ~

Beautiful arrangement, Vee! I've been thowing together some arrangements with shells, driftwood, ornaments, glass fishing floats and lights, then setting them around the house.

Hi Vee,

Your arrangement is lovely and so much better making it yourself, than paying huge amounts of money.

Happy week

Vee, your arrangement is wonderful and I particularly like that every year you recycle it somehow. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Vee! I loved the comment you left me, thank you!!!

I'm like you when it comes to decorating. I never buy any arrangements or wreaths pre-made. I like making it all myself, and I'm forever changing things up, pulling from here to put there... whatever works!

I really love your arrangement, those pinecones are gorgeous!
We have a ton of pine trees on our block and a couple of years ago I collect two huge shopping bags full. I glittered up a whole bunch of them with snowy white, twinkle glitter, and I laid them within the branches of my Christmas tree. They are big ones like the ones you have, most over 6". I love pinecones! I bought two bags of those cinnamon ones to put by the tree. the scent is just heavenly!

Enjoy this last week before Christmas! Do you know how to slow it down so it doesn't come too fast! ;) Hugs, Paulette
