Little things....

Have I mentioned too many times that little things make me happy?  Even little kitchen things... which I know wouldn't make most people happy.  But...I like to cook and bake and spend a lot of time in my kitchen...even when I'm not mixing up my concoctions...

So, Tuesday, in my travels... looking for something totally unrelated.... I spied this!

Yes!!  finally,....    a perfect size with the perfect shape!  Been looking off and on for quite some time now.... nobody seems to make this shape anymore for some strange reason.  And, if they are oval shaped?.... they have the skinniest handle .. silly to try mixing with.  It slides around in my hand ... can't get a good grip on it.  Most of the wooden spoons I see now are round.  Huh?  And most of the round spoons have big flat handles. Why?  ...  who the heck uses a round wooden spoon?  With a flat hard to hold handle.  Not me.  An oval stirs so much better.  What round spoon gets to the bottoms of most oval small bottomed bowls or pots?  Silly invention, the round.  Give me oval any day.  Plus.... this is the perfect size for filling a muffin cup.  A Mega cup...which is what I always use.  I like my muffins man sized.  So does Mr. BV.  If we're eating a muffin we don't want a dainty little cupcake.  But, why bother with a separate utensil... say...an ice cream scoop as they direct in many recipes?..  when I can just continue using the same spoon I was already using to mix the batter?   Who needs to wash extra utensils?

Thanks Mario!

I've already used it several times... ...I love it....I'm going back for a few more.  One can never have too many wooden spoons... maybe there were even different sizes.  I had total tunnel vision I must admit.  I only had eyes for you, oh perfect, beechwood, muffin-mixing-spoon!

There were several with more grainy patterns.... even some different colours of the same beautiful beech wood.  I love running my hand over the soft smoothness of it.... it is perfectly finished.... not splintery like so many of the cheapies I've seen or touched lately.

A softly rounded groove for your thumb ...and look, even a hole for a hook if you want to hang it.

yeh...I know...I'm a bit weird.....

Look at the great stew it was stirring the other day.....  mmmmmm.......

Not weird at ALL. I agree with all your reasons for hating most new wooden spoons these days, as well as all of your reasons for liking that one you've found.

I'm a big fan of Pampered Chef's bamboo wooden utensil collection. Expensive but AWESOME!

Can I ask where you got it? I am in need of one since I absolutely hate the ones I have. I need a substantial one to creme butter/margarine in baking.

I love a good wooden spoon too! Wish I could have some of that stew! It looks fabulous. Especially because I didn't have to cook it!

You can not mention this too often. Lots of joy comes in little sparks and we can grab it if we notice.
I can see how this spoon gives you joy to handle and to use. Carved wood like this is very beautiful.
I am happy for you and your spoon, now sing us a little tune. LOL, well, spoon and tune do rhyme.

I think it is the little things that make us happiest and it is always wonderful to have these reminders come our way. Love the thumb groove in that spoon - brilliant!

I'm with @Sue: there is real beauty in being able to appreciate the small things in life. In my experience, small joys are much easier to come by than big ones, so why not celebrate them?!

Of course now I don't remember whose blog led me here but I was attracted by the pretty doll photo in your profile. Then I was thrilled to see another biker, seeker, artistic etc soul (except I don't cook but yours looks so good). Hope you don't mind if I follow along.

OMG you visited me! And I LOVED your comments. You speak so freely it's like sitting at a rest stop w/ you. Sorry you probably couldn't find my bike but in your honor I have now posted the photo in my sidebar. Loved the story of how you learned to ride. I also wanted to ride forever and my hubby-to-be (at the time) gifted me a class. Hope to see your pics soon of your ride in a hot air balloon! Please do visit often... love to read your comments!

My stomach actually growled when I got to the picture of your stew!!! It looks sooooo good, and I love stew.

Yeah, what's with those skinny handles, that make it so difficult to stir properly. Great spoon you found...

I know that feeling! I'm so happy that someone else posts about the joy of these "little" things - not so little when you consider how it makes you feel. I have a favorite utensil that is made of bamboo, and gives that same tactile pleasure - mine is more flat, though; a bit like the thing you use for making stir fry, and having the corners on it makes it very useful for making sure you get in the edges of the pan (think cooked puddings, etc.)
