there is still snow in the shady spots...but...

It is spring in the house!
Ahhhh.... here we go... a flower on the Hoya plant. Good ol' plant.... every year. Always on the same stalk. They drop off and leave little bumps...then every so often below those..some new little flowerettes form...grow, and bloom. Click on the pics to see closer and you can get the idea....

When I say old...this thing is so old I can't even remember when I got it... it never gets any new leaves...probably because I almost killed it one summer. I put it outside with other plants to clean them...left them in the hot sun......it was too hot for them all. This one's leaves were never the same..they went all pale and "shrivelly"... sort of recuperated and now are pale and strong...but never a new leaf and occasionally one falls off. Poor thing. I don't deserve it..but it still does flower once or twice each year. This is what they look like about 3 days before they actually open up...they almost look like plastic.

Then the flowers open and they are almost soft and furry... like the nap on very fine velvet. The tiny stars in the centers look like beautiful miniature wax flowers. Click on the pic for a look at the texture.

Today I seriously dislike anyone who has open flowers. It has been snowing for the past 2 days. I am so done with winter but winter is obviously not done with me!

Hi Vee,
My Hoya never blooms wonder what the secret is ? Maybe lots more full sun ? Your photos are beautiful ! and yes I do know that if there were some cheap seat sales that you'd be on a plane in a blink of an eye to help see my out of my little rut(s).

What a beautiful thing! I want buttons just that color and just that shape.

I am not very good with plants either and always feel rewarded and slightly ashamed when something blooms under my care...er...lack of care...whatever! My sister took the Christmas cactus on Thursday so it might have a chance now.

Those flowers are amazing. So pretty but yet they look like they were made..not born. I guess they were made..by Mother Nature. :-)

I've never seen anything like the Hoya plant. It's beautiful! They almost look like little candies in the second picture!

Such lovely blooms on your hoya plant! Hopefully spring will arrive in your area soon and bring a landscape of blooming flowers for you to enjoy all summer.
