Had the blog pulled out from under me..

Yesterday I lost my blog.  It was kind of a shock. Wanted to go to the page to check something...and it told me the blog was not there.  Huh?  Wha' hoppen'? ..

Then a blog buddy wrote me to say my blog had disappeared.  What to do?  And let me tell you... it is a bit tricky to figure it out.  Well....it was for me anyway....

I knew that something was happening even earlier in the day when I was trying to leave comments.... Google kept asking me to sign in and then ..it wouldn't let me..... I should have realized..but, I didn't.  I guess in my tekky fog ... I didn't even know they were somehow connected... but, that's where I finally got it sorted.

Get to Google... tell them my blog has disappeared..and try to follow the trail of what to do...after it had decided that my account needed to be disabled due to 'suspicious activity'...which was probably just me trying to get signed in.

Eventually.... give them my telephone number and there was an instant call to give me a verification number which I was then supposed to type into the box...and voila...just like that...I was back.  Whew.  I didn't realize how much I love my blog and having things to look back on.  Or a journal of sorts to check what was happening in the garden or in my life at this time last year or the year previous.....

The really weird thing is..they want a mobile phone number as your contact...so they can text or call you...but, I don't have one.  I don't want one either.... so a person then has to go with a secondary email account for them to verify ...blah, blah.... man.... it is getting too complicated for me.  I don't even know how to use a cell and don't want one... how can I figure this thing out?

All I can say is it's fortunate that I was able to stumble through the maze of 'stuff' and get it back.... cuz it was this close ... (showing you a hair's breadth between thumb and forefinger here) ..... to being gone forever and me not being able to figure it out.

Giving it all my 'evil eye'... arrrgghhhhh!!  Oh, I guess that doesn't even look very tough after all.....

That happened to me too and like you I don't have a cell phone and don't want one. I ended up opening a second gmail account to make them happy.

Hi Vee,

This happened to me a few months ago, same thing only I had a cell phone and they texted me back with what I needed to know. Phew ... I thought I had lost mine too.
So glad you are back again and congratulations on 5 years!
Here's to many happy years of blogging ahead.
Enjoy the weekend
Hugs

Yes, that's an awful thought. All your work.
Vee, did you know that Google also advise backing up your blog?
Another kind blogger friend told me how. I do it every now and then. This is on the new interface:
Go to Settings, then Others, choose Export Blog then Download Blog and just direct it to whatever folder on your harddrive you wish. It only takes a minute or so and its done. I just did a backup now after reading your post!
Cheers, Susan xx

... just to add to my first comment.
In Other choose Blog Tools and that's where Export Blog is.
Hope that makes sense, have only had one coffee so far!!

I had that happen with my blog last year, Vee. Like you, I was desperate to get it back ASAP. Luckily, I have a mobile phone so was able to get the security code and, instantly, my blog was back. I can tell you the whole few minutes it took to get my blog back up gave me an instant migraine. With so many hackers out there, I think it's good that Google do take security precautions even if it does sometimes scare the wits out of us. lol

Whew! I guess you should back it up periodically to your hard drive. That way you at least have all of your posts and IF you have to reset up your blog, you'd have them still.

Glad you figured it out. I've heard nightmares like these and I'd be really lost trying to figure it out.

So glad it worked and you didn't lose everything!

Hi Vee,
Happy 5th Blogiversary!:)
What a nightmare my friend! :(
I would have been shocked too. What a horrible thing to happen. I would have been like you too thinking that after all those posts everything would be lost. Oh my! Just thinking of it my stomach knots up!!!
But so happy Google helped you get it back. Yay Google! :)
Now to that fellow at the end of this post. I want to see All of Him! :)
