.... ranting......

Artisan bread is exactly what its name suggests: bread that is crafted, rather than mass produced.  Why do people insist on calling it Artisian Bread?  Or, in the case of cashiers at the supermarket... any baked goods that they can't find on their cheat sheet when they ring up a purchase.  Black Forest strudel.... Artisian bun ... huh? ... .   Are they confusing it with the word Artesian> ? ... 'having to do with water and wells"?  I've looked it up ... can't find it in reference to baking... AT all.  Must be something new.... not yet in the dictionary...but, will be soon if they have their way.

Then... there is pundit..... why do even the educated continue to refer to it as pundint..or are they perhaps saying pundant? ...never heard of either myself... but, what do I know for sure?  Maybe they have access to dictionaries I've not seen.  Either way it has no bearing on the sentence in which they use it...nor does it refer to the dictionary meaning I know....    "Pundit is someone who offers to mass-media his or her opinion or commentary on a particular subject area (most typically political analysis, the social sciences or sport) on which they are knowledgeable. The term has been increasingly applied to popular media personalities. In certain cases, it may be used in a derogatory manner as well."

And the always annoying .... real "a" tor... even if they are one!  good grief... it has already been reduced from real estate broker or estate agent, or whatever they are called in various countries... to realtor.  Why do they make it worse than ever by tossing in the extra "a" before the "t" .... there isn't one!

There you have it.... my little rant on mispronunciation of words..... I love words.... that's probably why it makes me crazy.  I could cheerfully grab them by the throat and throttle them.  If I could only get at them through the television screen.  A perfect reason not to bother watching the stupid tube.  If they can't pronounce it... why don't they use a symanym.. a sinamyn .. a sinnamon... a well, you know what I mean..... Any favs that make you want to strangle the person uttering such profanity?

That does it.... I'm off to play with dolls......

To be perfectly honest, at this moment in time, in a game of two halves, I'm as sick as a parrot - ok, it's not mispronunciation, but just a collection of annoying phrases spouted by people on tv!!

That was a fun read.!! Sometimes my husband can slaughter a word...but he's so sensitive about it, I keep my mouth shut...

There is a woman on a forum I visit and believe it or not, what she does is so irksome and believe it or not I can't remember what it is at this moment. I'll have to find out and report back.

Aussies are well known for altering 'correct' words into our own lingo so I'm staying out of this one. lol

I'm larffin cos Mummy has been moaning like this this week!

She hates the term "no-brainer" as in sumthing is so simple an obvious.
I think it comes from US English, but we hav our own expreshun heer-
"it goes without saying".
SO wy do we need this uther term suddenly?

Wat seems to happen is sumwun piks up on a new phrase by watching a US tv drama or comedy etc, then, if they ar a journalist, or tv presenter, they start using it becos they think it makes them look yung an trendy. AN befor yu kno it it's evryware!

Uther exmpols from US English sneeking in and annoying Mummy-

"impactful" -we jus don't use this. Or shuddent. It's ugly.

"Impact" as a verb-
like, "The price rises will impact the shoppers." NO NO NO they won't! They will have an impact on them, they won't impact them. Impacting something means squashing it!!! LOL!

(That wun really gets to Mummy!)

"Healthful" - we hav "Healthy" so wy do we need this uther werd?
"Tasteful" ware we alreddy hav "Tasty".

STROOOOFFFF!!!

HEHEHEE!

I've got her ranting now!

I am rolling across the floor laughing my behind off! That is by far the funniest commentary I've read in quite awhile. Oh my goodness! (must not make any mistakes)...teeheeheeheeheehee!
What we have here is a failure to communicate, lol...If that is not the case, then there are those who would seek to be sure we can not understand one another. I'm beginning to feel as those folks must have felt while building the Tower of Babel. Don't you just love the confusion?

Mmmm...without wishing to cause offence, there are so many American pronunciations which drive me up the wall, I think my *favourite* has to be 'erbs instead of herbs (came across that for the first time when I watched Rosemary's Baby, years ago). They are only 'erbs if you are a French speaking person, not if you are a citizen of the USA!

pendantic in the UK. :)

ROFLMAO! Aww, Vee, I was just having some fun with you. When you come to visit you can correct my garbled slang way of talking- I actually write better than I speak. Now that should scare you! ;)

Ah yes. Aluminium (where did the extra "i" come from?) and then there was that one guy years ago that could not for the life of him just say "ask" - he said (yeah he really did) "ax." It drove me up the wall.
I hate the way people write - "Batchelor for Rent."
